  • R&R is not your typical “factory” style of physical therapy. Located inside CrossFit HSP & 919 Spine, you will have an airy waiting room and access to bathrooms and showers if you need to change. Our private office session will start with a discussion about your history (medical, fitness/training, injury) and goals. An evaluation will be performed to help determine the best course of treatment- often this includes various manual (hands-on) techniques, and will definitely include exercises. Please bring or wear athletic attire that can easily expose the area we are working on, and which will allow you to move freely.

Most sessions will be 1 hour, and all sessions are 1:1 with me- no aides, no techs, and no wandering around on your own! The only assistant who might be present during your session is “Captain Leroy”, my youthfully aging pup of a sidekick.

** Please advise me in advance if you have significant allergies or a fear of dogs**

I keep a variety of equipment in my office and we have access to more traditional gym/weight lifting equipment via CrossFit HSP if appropriate for your recovery and goals.
Expect homework! I do not “fix” anything. I will use manual techniques as a bridge to decrease pain and improve mobility, but in the end change happens through repetition and training new patterns.

I will teach you exercises and concepts to take into your daily routine to maximize your recovery. If you spend 1 hour with me, you still have 167 hours left in the week… That is where the biggest change happens!

  • Scheduling at R&R is very different from corporate mill clinics. Typically following your evaluation we will discuss a game plan, and usually recommend a first follow up within 1-2 weeks of your initial visit. An earlier follow up will help to ensure we are on the right track for your recovery!

As there R&R provides a strong focus on education and movement concepts, having some time between sessions allows you to practice integrating exercises and movements learned before your next visit. Based on your progress at visit 2, we can look to set up a frequency which makes sense for your goals, life, budget, etc. Most often, clients are following up every 2 weeks for more chronic issues, and weekly for more acute issues.

R&R does have a 24 hour cancelation policy. If you need to Reschedule your session, please contact via phone/text or email as soon as you know, so that we can keep your progress on track. While life does happen and sometimes unexpected things come up, if you need to cancel/reschedule with less than 24 hours notice, there will be a 50% fee. When you cancel with short notice, this not only effects your recovery, but could mean someone else who needs care doesn’t get an appointment either. This is a lose-lose situation, which we try to avoid. R&R will make every attempt to accommodate a rescheduling your session within the same business week to ensure you still get care (and avoid the fee), based on availability at the time.

If you have any questions about this policy/process, please do not hesitate to reach out!

  • Pilates is a style of movement training developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900’s while working with wounded soldiers in WWI. He was a German Citizen interned in an English camp during the war, but took it on his own to lead a fitness group. When none of his participants became sick with the Spanish Flu, he was assigned as an orderly in the Army Hospital. Following the war, he moved to NYC in the 1920’s. He and his wife Clara started their first studio and his understanding of the body has lived on since.

Pilates focuses on breath, control, precision, body awareness, balance/symmetry and rhythm/flow. Pilates is a great compliment to other forms of training (dance, lifting, running, competition sports) and can help to identify areas of focus for training. Pilates has been shown to increase metabolic efficiency (the amount of energy) and improve speed with running, reduce lower back pain, help balance muscle activation in conditions like Scoliosis, and improve individual performance within many other forms of exercise.

Pilates has also emerged as a long-term treatment option for many Orthopedic and Neurological conditions, including Scoliosis, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia (POTS), Hypermobility Syndromes, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s, Stroke and even Traumatic Brain Injury in some cases. Pilates can be used to improve gait and balance, decrease excess muscle tone (spasticity) and increase spinal mobility & limb symmetry and improve functional endurance in people with these conditions.

  • Unfortunately in today’s insurance model, insurances pay for you not to be sick (aka “Sick Care”), but do not pay for you to be well (“Well Care”). Most insurances want therapists to provide generalized treatments and do not reimburse for the value of specialty care. However, we all know individualized, targeted care provides better outcomes!

The R&R model is not "How MANY visits can I get the insurance/copay for?" but instead, “In how FEW visits can I get my patient moving better and returning to their goals?"

I focus on educating my patients (and/or parents) on their injury, anatomy, movements involved and how to treat, manage and prevent injuries in the future. I include teaching exercises and recovery drills that can be incorporated into a warm-up or cool-down for classes or training, as well as technique correction during specific movements to help reduce overload. Cross-training exercises will also help balance load patterns and body awareness. This type of education is often not achieved within "standard model" therapy sessions due to time and insurance restrictions.
